THE TASTE OF DAIQUIRI

FADE IN:

EXT. BEACH – DAY

Sunset approaching. Strong tides hitting the shores. The ambience is crowded. People moving here and there. Vendors are busy following the people.

A man in near thirties, seems mature and deep from his looks, ANTHONY and his lover JENNY, also in her end twenties, ambles over. The sand fills up the footprints made by them. Both remains silent and faces the horizon.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. INSIDE A CAR – NIGHT

Busy street. Anthony is driving. Jenny is sitting next to him. Soft MUSIC is played low. Both still looks deep, and Jenny more dejected but trying to look normal. After some minutes of drive Anthony slows down

ANTHONY
(Without giving a glance to Jenny)
Would you mind dropping in for a drink?

JENNY
(Surprised)
Hmm...Well. Sure

CUT TO:

INT. A PUB – NIGHT

Party ambience. Dim lighted hall. Rock Music played in the background. Anthony and Jenny moves across the dance floors and cubicle seats. They move upstairs to the deck and finds seats at the private corner space. They sits facing each other.

ANTHONY
(Smiling)
You might be surprised with the move. I know. Well, I believe, something special should end special.

JENNY
(With a dubious tone)
You think this is a great idea?

ANTHONY
(Smilingly)
Some motivation. Some stories too.

The WAITER arrives to take orders

WAITER
Sir, order please.

ANTHONY
(Turns to Jenny)
Shall I have the freedom to make the choice one last time?

JENNY
(Smiles sarcastically)
As if I had denied any.

ANTHONY
Well… this is special, I guess

ANTHONY (CONT’D)
(To waiter)
Daiquiri, two

WAITER
Sure, thank you.

He moves away.

  CUT TO:

INT. DANCE FLOOR - NIGHT

The music gets louder and the ambience gets heavy. More people joins the dance

CUT TO:

INT. UPPER DECK OF THE PUB – NIGHT

JENNY
What’s so special with Daiquiri?

ANTHONY
(Smiling)
16 doubles. What Hemmingway had drunk in one sitting! A legend indeed. A true fan of the drink. Moreover, having an origin from the land of revolutionaries- Cuba. What more needed to have love for this connoisseur classic!

JENNY
(Looking to the bar)
In that case, what’s your motivation? The legend or the revolution?

ANTHONY
The legend had his impressions always, to hope, to believe in luck. The revolution has its vigour, still. Besides the tastes have motivated too. Of life and love.

The waiter arrives and places the chilled cocktails in the table along with accompaniments and then leaves.

JENNY
(Tasting the cocktail)
Of life and love; the sourness that motivates. Well said dear, well said. For me it has its touch of revolution in the beginnings. The revolution of silence. The revolution of clashing eyes.

ANTHONY
(Tastes the drink)
Interestingly sweetness too has its role in Daiquiri. A blend of white rum, sugar syrup and lime juice is the one we are tasting. Well… the sweetness was sensed within the few words we conversed the next year. The sweetness of love.

CUT TO:

EXT. A LANDSCAPE – DAY

(FLASHBACK) Flashes to the images of their stages of relationship

 DISSOLVE TO:

INT. UPPER DECK OF THE PUB – NIGHT

JENNY
(Looking straight in his eyes)
You remember, when was the first kiss?

ANTHONY
(Placing the glass on the table)
The third year of sweetness. When the world had shrunk to just both of us.

JENNY
Sweetness nor sourness, the fifth year of ultimate desire, pleasure. A time for the major ingredient. The alcoholic refinement. Am I right Anthony?

ANTHONY
The key is to get the balance of ingredients right and the secret lies in knowing the flavours of your mind well. If you have your sense of taste right, Daiquiri gives better results in experiments. As one made by Hemmingway. What made him try more and more!

JENNY
(Smiling sarcastically)
So you mean, you never prefer perfectness? Of love and life?

ANTHONY
(Sipping the few remaining drops)
Now it has reached to an extent where nothing has to be dealt with. The sourness of ever echoing intimacy. I believe, marriage is the stage where the balance fails and love becomes too sour and sharp.

JENNY
(In a firm tone)
Sweet or sour, it depends upon the wavering mind. What remains common and what you revel in is the intoxication you find. Your taste of Daiquiri. The mix isn’t mine.

The waiter arrives again

WAITER
Sir, would you like to have another drink.

ANTHONY
(Smiling at Jenny)
For you, the end of a revolution, the change of tastes for me. The legend inspires now.

ANTHONY (CONT’D)
(To waiter)
A Hemmingway Daiquiri, for me… only for me.
